2022

Bev and Joan, America the Beautiful, Gershwin, Berlin

MMCP President Bev Owen and Joan Diehl open the 2022 Duo Piano scholarship fundraiser with America the Beautiful, Gershwin’s Embraceable You, and Cheek To Cheek by Irving Berlin. This event, held at Reedwood Friends Church in southeast Portland on April 4, 2022, is the first Duo Piano concert since 2019, thanks to the pandemic. Also worthy of note this year is that Bev’s appearance illustrates the remarkable progress she has made recovering from serious arm and back injuries suffered earlier in the year. She has all our best wishes I’m sure for a full recovery.

Glennis and Kristin play Bach and Kreisler

Glennis Lundberg and Kristin Guest delight the audience with Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and follow up with Liebesfreud (Love’s Delight) by Fritz Kreisler.

Guests Colleen and Kristy play Anderson, Rachmaninoff

Guest artists Colleen Adent and Kristy Moore play Three Waltzes for Two Pianos arranged by Greg Anderson of Anderson & Roe; Tears by Rachmaninoff; and Variations on a Theme by Paganini by Witold Lutoslawski. Bev Owen had asked the duo to appear for MMCP’s 2020 Duo Piano fundraiser but then Covid got in the way. Happily in 2022 we got a chance to hear them.

Bev and Joan, Gershwin prelude; Sam’s Song; Berlin

Bev and Joan play Prelude No. 11 in C minor by Gershwin; Sam’s Song (The Happy Tune), by Lew Quadling and Jack Elliott; and You’re Just in Love by Irving Berlin.

Glennis and Kristin play Gershwin, Gershwin and Gershwin!

Glennis Lundberg and Kristin Guest play Love Walked In, I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’ and Love Is Here to Stay. Demonstrating once and for all that there’s no such thing as too much Gershwin.

Bev and Denali, Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Music Box Rag

President Bev and Denali close the show with an arrangement of The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel and Music Box Rag by Denes Agay. Then we all went and ate cookies!
