About the Monday Musical Club of Portland

Founded in 1904 by Carrie F. Heppner, the Monday Musical Club started as a small group of women focused on raising the standard of musical culture in Portland. In 1910 the major project for the Club was the raising of funds to purchase a site for a municipal hall. This hall later became the Civic (Keller) Auditorium.

Today, the Club's focus is to encourage and support musical understanding, appreciation, and education in the city of Portland.

Each year Monday Musical Club contributes to the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Youth Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, and the Community Music Center. Every spring, Monday Musical Club awards thousands of dollars in financial assistance to outstanding young musicians to support and encourage their study of music.

Members of Monday Musical Club are not all musicians. However, all members love and appreciate music and enthusiastically support the club's mission. We invite all who love music to attend one of our "First Monday Musicales" (see calendar) to get acquainted and learn more about our activities.

Below is a brief look into the history and mission of the Monday Music Club of Portland with commentary by long time member, Denali Porter.
